Stuck…

Good morning all you little worker bees! Hate to break it to you like this and so early, but it’s Monday again! As I am writing this that song by Juice Newton, “Break it to Me Gently,” is rolling through my head. I hope you all enjoyed your weekends and are now ready to face the work force with smiling, happy faces! I’m not! Last night my inner night owl and my inner early bird had a monumental struggle. Both won, I lost, resulting in maybe two and a half hours of sleep. Today’s shift that Cracker Barrel should be fun! I can hardly wait….zzz!

This morning the larger contingent of the furry support staff is inside waiting for the Corgis to finish their business. I’m not sure whose bladder was screaming louder at 4 am, mine or Jeb’s. As I let them out, everyone came running, but the others immediately went back to bed when they realized only Jeb and Sassy were going out. I’m sitting here drinking my coffee and watching Minxy lay on her back on the couch, chasing something in her dreams. I don’t believe I have ever seen her sleep like that. Maybe after seven years she has finally relaxed. She has always been the one on guard, ever vigilant, waiting for the ball to drop, ready to defend her people. That devotion to duty has somehow stunted her ability to just be a dog, but lately she appears to be trying and its down right weird.

I was very humbled and honored by the number of birthday wishes I received from friends on Facebook yesterday. The day was really nothing special. I was here most of the day by myself. I chose to curl up and binge watch The Closer. I love Kyra Sedgewick’s character in the show, kind of reminds me of…well me sometimes. We did go out to dinner last night at my favorite Mexican restaurant, Mi Cabana’s, and I did have the celebratory mango margarita. Other than that is was a quite serene day.

I had considered posting my friend, author, Lois Szymanski’s most excellent response to the PETA letter to the Chincoteague Fire department, but I have chosen to hold off on that until later. I want to wait until the dust settles and see what is left before I revisit the topic again.

Currently, I am suffering from a bit of artist’s block. Unless you have actually experienced it, it’s hard to comprehend the struggle.I can truly sympathize with writers who are on a deadline. The struggle is real! For an artist or writer it can be physically painful, resulting in headaches, sleepless nights, and stretched nerves. Thank God I don’t usually have to deal with deadlines or I would be bald. There is no way to work through it, there is no way to push through it, and there is absolutely no way to force creativity. If its not there, its just not there. I have found a way to help myself though and it is quite comical. So while I was experiencing the block one day I decided to clean my table, organize things, put things in their place, and make it look pretty! My kids will tell you that is a rare occasion! But I have discovered that when it is clean, it sort of drives me a bit nuts, and the urge to mess it up again eventually prevails and the block subsides. I’m not sure how a writer or even a musician would translate that to their fields, but it certainly kick started the artist in me. Yea, I know I’m weird….it’s part of the whole artist persona lolol!!

I am currently working a Christmas card design with the Love Chairs! I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Shirts, goodies and other items are available at Blue Crab Treasures in Chincoteague VA.

Well folks, I have nothing else to say today….its time to feed the furry support staff anyway. The ones in the house are starting to move around a bit, and they will soon realize that breakfast is 30 minutes late. Love and scritches to the furry loves. Its time to get up and at’em people!

I know its only Monday so….

Play nice y’all…

Pony Penning Wrap Up

Wow! What a week it was! Highs, lows, very lows, and everything in between. No doubt the energy during Pony Penning is a natural high that keeps one going. And unless you actually are there, there is no way to describe it accurately.

First off let me apologize for my absence. I was so busy preparing for the events of last week that I really couldn’t wrap my head around posting for this blog. Lots of work went into the week, art wise, and I have to say I am thrilled with the results!

I only took one member of the furry support staff with me. Jeb is the easiest to travel with and Chincoteague is his happy place as well. Everyone else stayed here and from what I was told Sassy was none too happy about being left behind. She tends to be very vocal and I didn’t want her disturbing the other guests at the hotel. Anyhow, they all survived my absence, no matter what they might tell someone else. Fortunately, and surprisingly enough I didn’t come home to yet another four legged addition to our current pack of 6. I believe I would have blown a gasket, stolen Kayla’s key and returned to where I had just left. So, there is something there for which to be thankful!

Reworked Love of Chincoteague 3

Now the good news!!! My design, the Love Chairs with the ponies in them was a huge success. I cannot even tell you how over the moon I am with this! People were in Blue Crab Treasures buying several shirts at a time, plus prints, post cards, and koozies. Sue, nor I had no idea just how big this would be and we both are appreciative to those who have supported our efforts. It was a completely surreal week made more so by a woman in Sue’s shop who wanted her picture taken with me, she said “because you are famous!” I have to say that truly messed with my head. Another good note was the auctioning of my original sketch called “Treasures of Chincoteague.” It was sold at $450.00. I thought I was going to pass out from holding my breath! I was just so happy it sold for more than the price of the framing. I never dreamed it would sell so high! A huge thanks to the person that bought it. I know her and have dealt with her in the past and am so happy she got it, and honored that she would pay that much for it!

Not all of the week was business related. We were able to attend a couple of the Chincoteague Legacy group functions. I was able to make new friends while attending the pony parade. Colleen Murdock is a riot and I am so glad I finally had the chance to meet her. I am also glad to have met Andrew Kozak at the parade. He has commissioned me to do a project that is out of my normal scope, but I am excited to be doing it!

Monday night was the CLG Meet and Greet where I was able to reconnect with old friends and finally meet friends from Facebook. I explained to someone last week that among this amazing group of people, I tend to become a social butterfly, which I am not normally. The ease that I experience among these people is something I don’t generally feel. The CLG bonfire with the McClure sisters, Jody, Meme, Kelly, and Rita, is such a treat and free entertainment at best! I love these ladies to the moon and back, and apparently will be spending my December vacation with them at Grayson Highland state park. At least, that’s what Jody told me I am doing. Hahahaha!!! Love her!

Now I have a bit of a rant….it might tick some folks off, it might even cause them to unfriend me, but I have to comment on this.

Last week on the day of the auction, a tragedy occurred, when a beloved mare, Butterfly Kisses, slipped on some hay and hit the fence at the fairgrounds and she died almost instantly. The events leading up to this freak accident are still quite fuzzy to me. Some say she was being chased by her stallion Riptide, others say she was trying to get to her colt. So, in all honesty, I don’t know what happened. All I know that it was a sad moment in an otherwise, wonderful day, and my heart goes out to her buyback owner. This seems to have set off a firestorm of nastiness, allegations, pot stirring, and name calling that is down right childish and absolutely unnecessary. All it took was one person to unleash the beast!

I think we can all agree that when you have a large group of people there will be questions and some disagreement and petty squabbles, especially when that large group is predominantly women…lol. Yes I am one of them and not ashamed to admit it! And I am not saying that I have agreed with everything that has been done, nor am I saying that I am not happy with the group. I have enjoyed the camaraderie of the group in question. I love many of them and have close connections to many of them. So, this lashing that was made on a public business page on Facebook had me just a bit more than miffed! The accusations made were not based on fact. The woman had no clue about much of the crap she was spewing. Then to make it all more laughable, she expected an apology from the very group she had just ripped to shreds publicly. Are you freaking serious? What makes a person so unhappy that she feels the need to make others as miserable as she seems to be?

Rant over, it’s making my head hurt.

Folks, I must leave you now. Lots to do today! I love you all most ardently! I will be sharing a recipe for a nice and cool treat for your furry ones later.

Love and extra scritches for your furry loves. Remember they love you ,even if you can’t find any redeeming qualities in yourself. By the way, throw them an extra biscuit! And if you are in Chincoteague get those biscuits from Howl Naturale! Jeb loves them!!!

Take care of yourselves while you suffer through your Tuesday, aka Wednesday’s ugly step sister. Be aware of those around you and try to make a stranger smile today, it won’t cost a thing and you will get something out of it as well!

Play nice ya’ll…

Heatwave

Good morning all you lightly roasted folks!! Welcome to your Friday! Hope you all are managing to stay hydrated and cool. This current heatwave is no joke!! Even the wasps and flies have settled down a bit here during the day. Last night we had one heck of a storm. I guess it was around 1 am. I had fallen asleep in the living room while working on a project. Suddenly, I had a 50 pound Aussie and a 45 pound Aussie in my lap, while the Beagle puppy, who has no concept of fear was trying to figure out where to fit himself in the pile. No, he wasn’t scared, he thought it was a new game, I’m sure. Thankfully, the other two were in my room or I would be having to replace a chair today.

The majority of the furry support staff is moving kind of slow this morning, but grateful the thunder monster didn’t get them. The exception is the puppy, of course, who is running around like a lunatic, completely oblivious to anything.

Love Chairs,

The picture above is my new design featuring the Love Chairs at Robert Reed park on Chincoteague Island with a Chincoteague pony in each chair.  The ponies are Surfer Dude; his daughter, CLG Surfer’s Blue Moon; his son, Surfer Dude’s Riptide; and his daughter, Surfer Princess. Right now it is available in prints and t shirts and hopefully soon, there will be coffee mugs. Should the design go well, the plan is to have a contest to name the ponies that will be occupying the chairs next year. Shirts will be available at Blue Crab Treasures on Chincoteague Island. Or you can order them from the Blue Crab Treasure Chest on Facebook.

This gem is one of my personal best and favorites, featuring Chinoteague pony stallion Ajax.  Love his white tail!!! It’s an 11×14 acrylic on framed canvas and is available for purchase at the CorgiNuts Sketches Facebook page.

Ok now that business is out of the way, let’s chat….

Today’s subject is “the hypocrisy of the elite.” I know, I picked a doozy today. Sure to start an argument somewhere, but I’m a rebel like that. LOL! generally I stay away from politics because I feel that how you vote is your business and all politicians have an agenda, I don’t care how sincere or humble they appear. One may start out with an objective geared towards helping his or her own community, city , or state, but they all end up going with the crowd. The ones that stick in my craw are the Hollywood and celebrity elite trying to tell us “commoners how to feel, think, or vote.” Nothing ticks me off more than to hear the like of Whoppi Goldberg, Michael Moore, or Robert DeNiro mouthing off about the President or the actions of Congress, or any other thing in the country that offends them.  First of all, the treason that has been allowed to occur since the President took office is absolutely unacceptable.  When you have images on t-shirts of the President’s brains being blown out, or someone makes threats towards his young son and wife, there is something seriously wrong. The latest threat against his son is absolutely vile, and all by someone who used celebrity to get the point across. If someone, not in the spotlight had done any of this, the FBI would be so far up his or her rear end and enema wouldn’t be able to fix it. Secondly, the grandstanding at awards shows and such has become ridiculous. Honestly, if you make great music, or are a great actor, I will listen or watch. But I don’t give a rat’s ass about your politics.  Here’s the thing, if it wasn’t for the public interest, these folks would be in the same boat the majority of American’s are in, living paycheck to paycheck, and making ends meet the best way they know how. But by some stroke of luck, whether born into it, or struggled up to it, these are the folks we have chosen as our “idols,” in many cases, kind of a sad lot.

So I leave you with this, if you don’t like our President that’s just fine and dandy. you are not expected to do so. But at the end of the day, he is still your President, no matter how many times you say he’s not, if you are citizen of these United States, yes indeed he is! You don’t have to agree with his policies, you don’t have to like his past shenanigans, you don’t have to like his son, his wife, or his dog even ( if he has one). But I do expect that you should respect the office and not commit treason without some kind of consequence.

Ok folks. rant over!! Whew! Had to rein myself in on that one. So, I hope you all enjoy your Friday and are able to slide into your weekends smoothly and without obstruction. Be aware of the heat and keep yourself cool as best you can.

How about extra scritches and maybe a long walk or ride for the furry ones. They have waited all week for you to be off!

Hey check out the other pages on this blog, including an introduction to the furry support staff, recipes, and my artwork page! Oh and I left ya’ll the recipe for my Not Your Mom’s Shepherds Pie. Check it out on my Recipes you want to try page.

I love you all most ardently! And I know it’s hard, especially when it’s hot and muggy, and someone is straight ticking you off, but please keep in mind….

Play nice ya’ll…
