I’m Melting!

Good evening my peeps! How’s it swingin’? If you feel quite like a wilted flower, then you are not alone. This heat has been unreal! Please be safe and make sure you stay hydrated! And please, please, please make sure the furry ones have plenty of water if they are outside.

Tonight the females of the furry support staff are pouting a bit. I have shut them out of my room. My VP of the entire house appears to be in a grumpy mood and I would rather not have to referee if he gets too cranky. Maybe it’s the heat….I don’t know….I know it’s making me cranky.

I have so much stashed in my brain that i want to do, that I can literally envision the list falling out of my ears if I close my eyes. My Pony Penning trip is less than two weeks away and I have so so much to do.  If you dont know me, I will be the one wearing pastel chalk and charcoal warpaint lolololol. Fortunately I do have two free days next week so I can get as much done as possible. I am really excited about the pony note cards, I’m thinking they will be really nice.

Is there anything better than a really really good cantaloupe? I think not!! And you may think I’m weird (I wear it proudly), but i like mine with gingersnaps! Susan and I bought two basketball sized ones at Port City Produce in Wilmington NC last weekend. I don’t know how she’s feeling about hers but mine is off the chain!!!

Pay attention now! I have two product alerts.

First is the spray cleaner Awesome! It’s great on grease, but I use it to clean my car headlights! After it dries I use a dab of baby oil on the lens and it makes them shine. Ok I said “dab” just enough to know it’s on your cloth and then polish the lenses really well. Don’t coat them or you will have every bug in four surrounding counties plastered to the front of your car.

Second is Grandma’s Spot Remover! They need to sell this stuff by the gallon. Justin recently got grease on his best jeans and a white tanktop at work. I thought for sure both were ruined. I found my tiny bottle of Grandma’s and thought “what the heck…I’ll give it a whirl!” Sure enough both came out clean as could be. I was amazed! So definitely try it.

Well folks that’s all I’ve got for today. I’m going to apologize in advance because with Pony Penning coming up I may not have the time to post much.  Soon I’m hoping to have this on a wider audience and will be able to have more fun with it. In the meantime, I will continue to share with you all.

Suggestion…..rent The Zookeeper’s Wife

I love you all most ardently!

Extra scritches and love to the furry ones…..as you slide into your weekends remember to make sure they are taken care of.

And please, I know this heat has folks on edge…..keep the road rage under control people (ahem…..Susan).

Play nice y’all…..coffee and corgis

Sorry

Good morning people!  It us Tuesday….or double hump day…or Monday’s ugly step sister.

First let me apologize for my absence the last few days.  We attended my daughteKayla’s graduation celebration in Wilmington NC. My bestie Susan came down and of course we had to explore. So, posting was not doable.  Will post more about our excursion later.

Anyhow I’m back!. The furry support staff did well with their pet sitter Staci over the weekend. I’m quite sure my VP of “everything is mine” will not let me forget that I left him home and took the VP of “Justin is my world” instead.  Even though I told him he gets to go to Pony Penning, I will pay penance. Looks like I may have to take him to Mr. Whippy’s for ice cream.

Today’s blog is gonna be a short one. I have to be at work at 9. I’m gonna leave you all with the latest art works I have completed.

So remember to give your furry ones lots of scritches and plenty of water and biscuits.

Your mission for the day is to make someone smile. Its Tuesday and no one is  happy about it.

I love you all most ardently.

Play nice y’all. …

Don’t Let Them Steal Your Happy!

Good morning all you worker bees! Your descent into your weekend has begun.

This morning finds the furry support staff thankful yet again for being saved from the thunder monster. Everyone is conked out! Even the VP of “it’s all about Justin” came into my room at 1 am for reassurance. I wonder if they will ever figure out that the thunder monster never actually gets to them, or if their fear at the moment makes it impossible for them to remember?

Today will be spent putting the final touches on the painting below….I am beyond pleased with this! So is the owner of the horse and that is exactly what I needed!

Have you ever come across someone that was just plain miserable all the time, complained all the time, and wasn’t happy unless everyone else was just as miserable?  Yea…..me too. Truth is people like this are toxic. This person will bend any ear that seems available and will spew out his or her toxicity until he or she sees results. Only then will this cancerous person be happy. The shame of it is how it spreads and affects the atmosphere whether it be a job, a group, or even a small town. Whatever the situation it can lead to misunderstandings, hurt feelings and a plethora of other reactions. The effects are often far reaching, sometimes devastating, and occasionally cause irreparable damage.  Those that recognize what’s happening often sit by and watch in absolute amazement at how quickly it can occur and are helpless to do anything about it. Others ignore it, thinking lack of recognition will make it go away. I probably am guilty of both reactions depending upon the situation. If it affects me directly I’m gonna be vocal about it though. You can’t let folks like this steal your happy.  Only you have control of that! Your happiness is yours…..

Well I have got to get to work……you all have a most wonderful Thursday as you slide into your weekend.

Extra scritches and live to the furry support staff. They are patiently waiting for your weekend too!

Be safe, be kind, and watch out for the other guy……

Play nice y’all…….

Consideration

Good morning my peeps! Hump day is here!!!🐪

Today is gonna be a short one as I have a painting in progress and would love to finish it before I go back to work Friday…..

The furry support staff is relieved that last night is over and that neither the thunder monster nor the fireworks monster got to them last night. When I got home from work the entire staff met me at the door as if I had arrived just in the nick of time to save them…..poor babies.  Minxy’s nerves were so frayed, she paced between my room and Justin’s all night long. This morning all of the furry ones are sleeping peacefully….

I have fantastic news!! My daughter Kayla is now a college graduate with her degree in paralegal studies!!! I am so proud of her!!! She has worked so hard for this! We will be having a celebration this Saturday in Wilmington. So if I don’t post, you will know why!

So the last two nights I have worked I have gotten out well passed closing. Sunday night it was 50 minutes passed, last night 25. When I left last night all the servers were long gone, but someone came in at 5 minutes before 10 to shop. Which is not a bad thing….but why not come in at oh let’s say 9:30 and shop for 30 minutes, instead of 5 minutes before closing and shopping for 30 minutes. Sunday night at 9:50 there were 14 tables full. The last table got up at 10:15 and then decided to shop for…..you guessed it….30 minutes. Granted we needed the  sales but….dang!!!!

Which brings me to my topic…..consideration. Many times we become so blinded by our needs, our wants, our own comforts that we develop blinders to the world around us. We don’t think about the server who has been at work all day and is probably exhausted and just wants to go home. We don’t think about the postal worker who has been sitting in a hot mail truck all day and just wants some relief from the heat. We don’t think about the nurse who has seen dozens of folks during her shift and just wants to get some rest before she does it all over again the next day. While I agree that you should get what you pay for and that excellent customer service is key to success, it’s not always a black and white, wrong or right situation. The phrase “the customer is always right” has far outlived its purpose and meaning when customers have become arrogant, selfish, and obnoxious. I mean really, ….

Ok…..I have got to get busy….you all have a most wonderful day!

Scritches and biscuits for the furry support staff!

Takes care, take it easy and by all means

Play nice y’all!

Ironically…..

Good Tuesday morning all you patriots! One of the few days in the year when most everyone considers his or her self a patriot, even die hard Redskins fans!!! Lololol! Happy Independence Day!!!

The 3/4 of the furry support staff is out patrolling the backyard and scanning the neighborhood for ne’er do wells, free ranging dogs, and the occasional stray cat. Seems something has their ire up!  The other 1/4 of the staff, Bailey is curled up in his master’s lap in the recliner and both are sound asleep. That dog is in complete bliss right now.

I’m working a closing shift today, so laundry and painting are on the agenda until then.

One of my PFFs (Pony Friend Forever) photographer Amanda Paoletti sent me an 8×10 photo print of one of the foals I sketched for note cards. What a sweet gesture! Can’t wait to have it framed!!!

So today is our country’s birthday, today we celebrate our country’s independence from British tyranny. Today we celebrate our country winning the fight against “taxation without representation.”……..Wait wut??? I don’t know about you all, but I’m feeling taxed right down to my toenails. And not once can I say I have felt that congressmen, congresswomen, governors, etc., have represented me, my friends my family, or anyone I know.

Here is an example of how Congress has no clue…..Servers, waitresses….anyone who waits on you at a restaurant and makes tips. In North Carolina, the “cash wage ” of $2.13 minimum is the lowest in the country (no surprise there). So an employer can hire on servers at this amount. Now most companies do allow for raises based on performance, longevity, etc….but rarely is that more than 50¢ each raise…and most often it is 25¢.  Most of the servers I know have to use that pittance to pay taxes on the tips they make. I don’t believe tipping should be mandated either. I despise going to a restaurant where an automatic tip is charged. My tip for a server is based upon performance and satisfaction, so telling me that I will pay this amount is rather presumptuous. At my job, cashiers ask everyone who pays with a card if they would like to leave a tip on the card for the server. If that person says “oh I left it at the table” I have to take them at their word, I can’t say “are you sure?” So last week a party of 30+ came in at 9:25 pm (we close at 10). It was a travelling ball team including coaches, parents, etc…Their server is without a doubt one of the best and I have no doubt she waited on their every need and desire. The total bill for just the team that was paid by one of the coaches was $137.00. There were about four sets of parents with siblings travelling with the team and they each had separate bills. Total tip left for this server was $5 by one of the parents paying separately. I felt so bad for the server…..

The problem is Congress continues to vote on keeping this cash wage low. It has changed little in the past two decades. How many of them do you think would be willing to live off that wage? Most will never have to….instead single mothers and such will continue to fill these jobs and until they all come together it will not change.

So the irony is today we are celebrating independence from one frying pan while we stew in another…..Queen Elizabeth recently said that the U.S. is a failed experiment in democracy….I tend to agree.

Anyhow, you all have a wonderful day!

Extra scritches to the furry support staff and remember the fireworks you are enjoying may well be scaring the heck out of them…..so turn up the television or music and for heaven’s sake, please don’t take them with you.

Get that road rage under control folks and until next time…

Play nice y’all…

Balsamic Glazed Chicken

I promised recipes! This one is a must….except for the rosemary!!!
Sharon doesn’t do rosemary…..

This sweet, tangy chicken is the perfect weeknight dinner.

TOTAL TIME: 0:55
PREP: 0:15
LEVEL: EASY
SERVES: 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 c. balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. whole-grain mustard
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 bone-in skin-on chicken thighs
  • 2 c. baby red potatoes, halved (quartered if large)
  • 1 tbsp. chopped fresh rosemary
  • 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 3-4 rosemary sprigs, for skillet

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 425°. In a large bowl, combine balsamic, honey, mustard, and garlic and season with salt and pepper. Whisk until combined. Add chicken thighs and toss until fully coated, then transfer to the fridge to marinate, at least 20 minutes and up to 1 hour.
  2. Meanwhile, prep potatoes: In a medium bowl, add potatoes and rosemary and season with salt and pepper. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and toss until combined. Set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat remaining tablespoon oil. Add chicken and marinade and sear, skin side down, 2 minutes, then flip and sear 2 minutes more. Add potatoes to skillet, nestling them between chicken, and top with rosemary sprigs.
  4. Transfer to the oven and bake until potatoes are tender and chicken is cooked through, 20 minutes. (If potatoes need longer to cook, transfer chicken to a cutting board to rest and continue cooking until tender.)
  5. Serve chicken and potatoes with pan drippings.

Labels

Good morning my peeps! How’s it hangin’? Yep it’s Monday….again…..though some of you might have the week off. Others may have tomorrow off….and then there are those of us who are not fortunate enough to work where they do…..lolol.  Hopefully everyone survived the weekend! This is the first year in I don’t know how many that I didn’t attend the festivities at the Croaker Festival in Oriental. Felt kind of odd…..but duty called. Oh well…..

The furry support staff is acting like they partied hard to celebrate the 4th. My VP of “all that he can see” is tucked up under the patio swing watching everything going on around him. I’m kind of shocked at my “minister of hygiene” Minxy who came in for breakfast looking like she had stomped through a mud hole. “Her Sassiness” came in and stole Jeb’s new baby (toy). I must remember to tell her to claim temporary insanity when Jeb finds out. The VP of “it’s all about Justin” is moping behind the recliner because his Daddy went to work, poor fella.

Anyhow, I’m off from my “real” job today, so sketching, painting and drawing are on the agenda. Lots to do….

Saturday I received a book in the mail that was authored by my dear friend Lois Szymanski called “The True Story of Miracle Man.” A must read for any young girl who loves horses/ponies. Hoping to get mine signed by the author during Pony Penning.

Welcome to My Contradictory Life!!
Today is the first day of the rest of this circus I call my life!
The sign says not my circus, but this is my circus and I own the monkeys!!!
So from here on out, I plan to use them for my benefit!!!

Today’s subject is labels….not the ones on material things but those we place on other people and ourselves. There are labels that are objective, mine are or have been daughter, mother, wife, divorcee, Yankee, widow, southern, military brat, artist, student, employee, etc….just to name a few.
But there are also labels that are subjective, labels intended to either compliment or define, or even inflict verbal injury. My list includes white (though I am part Native American), fat (depends on who is looking), racist (never have judged someone one their color), bitch(yep, I must own up to that one some days), and a plethora of other labels based on appearance, attitude, first impressions, and ignorance.
Why do we have to label people? I have friends….lots of them….I don’t label them by saying that’s my white friend, that’s my black friend, that’s my gay friend, that’s my liberal friend, and so on….if you are my friend…..YOU ARE MY FRIEND, obviously you mean enough to me that I consider you as such. DISCLAIMER!!! I make an exception where my bestie is concerned, because I may have to threaten someone with the short red head on occasion. Bahahahahaha!
I think most of this derision is caused by outside sources, media, advertising, corporate America, and a host of others trying to dictate how we live, how we see people, and how we judge others. They treat everyone like sheep knowing that if one jumps the rest will follow. We have got to stop allowing this to happen.

Ok there endeth the rant lol
I really must go now….my furry support staff is being more than noisy this morning and I’m afraid they might make the neighbors grumpy!
Everyone please have the most awesome day possible.
Please share this page with your friends and your friend’s!!!
I love you all most ardently!!!FB_IMG_1498989929366_kindlephoto-8170379

Today’s featured photo is Kachina the Chincoteague mare enjoying a good old fashioned roll in the dirt. Looks like fun but I’m not suggesting anyone try it….lol.

Remember to make someone smile today…and by all means
Play nice y’all

R.I.P. Jojo

This past week I lost someone who meant the world to me. Mrs. Joyce Hudgins, “Jojo” passed away in her home on Monday at the age of 82. I have known this day was coming for quite a while, but no matter how long you suspect something it doesn’t lessen the pain or the loss.

I met Jojo in Mathews VA in 1981 when I went to work taking care of her mother in law, Mrs. Janie Dell Hudgins. Jojo and her husband, Tabb had no children, so immediately they kind of adopted me.  At the young age of 19 I needed some guidance, discipline, and self control. Jojo became my conscience, my fairy godmother, truth be told. Had it not been for her I cannot even begin to imagine what road my life might have taken. I will always thank God for having put her in my life at a time when I truly needed someone.

I will miss her dearly. I know that she and Tabb are up there now laughing and giggling and so happy to be reunited.

R.I.P. Jojo, I’d have been lost without you….

Play nice ya’ll……
